Batching Videos for Social Media

Creating video posts for social media can be a daunting task. Let me break down how I create a bunch of videos at once to use on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest! This is called "batching" and it's how I maximize my social presence while minimizing my time spent on the platform.

Step 1: Brainstorm

This is a fun, messy, creative process. I make a big brain dump of random video ideas. There are no bad ideas and no plans at this stage! I pick a day to brainstorm when I’m feeling VERY creative. (If you are a biological female, you should look into cycle synching to learn more about when you are naturally primed to do certain types of tasks)

Step 2: Plan

Take that glorious, creative mess that you created during your brainstorming session and refine it. Pick ideas that are relevant to your audience’s pain points. Find things that are timely, or things that are evergreen. Consult your social strategy: what do you need to tell your audience? Which video ideas will help you tell them? Where will these videos fit in to your posting plan?

Step 3: Scripts & Shots

Outline scripts and make a list of shots you want to capture. I try to plan to film 3-5 videos all in one go. Sometimes more, if the videos are going to be short! (I’m looking at you, Instagram Reels). Take time to actually schedule your filming. Like, physically put it in your planner or calendar. Think about lighting when you schedule your film date!

Step 4: Lights, Camera, ACTION!

Film those videos! Assemble your props, review your script, get your costumes prepped, and do some deep breathing. Set up your camera or phone on a tripod and go for it! I like to film each video in one go, not stopping even if I mess up. I’ll edit that out later! I also like to use the pause function on my phone to stop a recording and continue it in another location.

Step 5: Edit

Chop out any mistakes, add transitions and music, voiceovers, filters, sound effects, whatever you need! I highly recommend adding captions to your videos for social media, many users watch with sound off! My favorite editing app is InShot on my phone. I cannot believe the awesome features it has!

Step 6: Post & Engage!

This is where it gets really fun! Post your video and engage with your audience! Refine your video creation style based on feedback and what works for you.
